People who receive housing choice vouchers find their own rental housing and use vouchers to assist with rent. Ultimately, it is the voucher holder’s decision whether or not to rent your property. However, as a landlord, you would screen the voucher holder just as you would any other prospective tenant.
Property owners and managers who are interested in participating in the housing choice voucher program can apply online at gosection8.com, or drop off application materials at the GHA offices. GHA has no knowledge of the condition of a housing unit until a request for tenancy is submitted by the voucher holder and the inspection is initiated.
Please note that gosection8.com is not affiliated with GHA.
Gainesville Housing Authority offers workshops for property owners and property management agencies to teach how the program functions.
Covered topics include tenant and property owner/manager responsibilities, HQS inspections, Section 8 forms, standard office procedures, fraud and fair housing. We also provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
Workshops are hosted quarterly. For questions about the program and workshop dates, please contact us at (352) 872-5500 or view our calendar.
